Marriott SpringHill Suites is a spacious West Elm-furnished hotel located in the Village of Tuckahoe, New York. Forty minutes from Grand Central Station, this brand-new hotel offers convenience at each guest’s fingertips. Marriott SpringHill Suites consists of a five-story hotel and a 6,400-square-foot restaurant, along with associated interior car parking and driveway areas as well as stormwater management facilities. Prior to the construction of the hotel, the 3.5-acre lot housed an auto repair lot, and prior to that, a marble quarry.

SESI is proud to be part of such of a booming industry in Westchester, participating in the geotechnical and site planning aspects of the Marriott project. SESI provided the site civil engineering design, site inspection services, and fill material sampling and testing.

The site plan engineering package included a demolition plan, grading and drainage plan, utility plan, landscape plan, and construction details. SESI also obtained the Municipal Planning Board and Westchester County Department of Health (WCDOH) approval. The WCDOH approval authorized the construction of water/sanitary sewer utility lines to serve the hotel.

This former marble quarry had been filled in, but runoff from upslope properties flowed through the property like a drainage way. The challenge was to not only capture, treat, and control the on-site runoff, but also to provide a strategy for the off-site runoff to flow around the property. The runoff had to be discharged into the Village's old storm system without any surges out of manholes and catch basins.

In order to address the Village's concerns, SESI designed a system of four CONTECH underground DURAMAXX® detention basins that are water and soil tight to slow runoff rates on-site. Runoff is treated with CDS® devices just before it enters the underground basins. A separate storm system was designed to handle the off-site runoff. Both systems are combined on-site, just before they connect to the Village system at three locations.

The hotel was completed in April 2019 and increased attention to Westchester, as an alternative, more affordable option compared to Manhattan hotels.
